On The Course...
2011 - The Season begins.
As most members, and residents of Central NY, know you just have to
wait a few minutes for the weather to change in these parts, but the
same can be said for most areas around the country. Spring is upon us,
once again, and the seemingly endless and snow choked winter is a thing
of the past, until next November.
Woodcrest Golf Club is now open for play, weather permitting for the
2011 Season. We ask all members, returning and new alike to follow the
one foremost simple suggestion.
Always call for a tee time when
expecting to play golf.
We may just inform you that early in the season before the Leagues start at the end of April that tee
times are not necessary and we can accomodate you whenever you come up.
Also while we try our hardest to keep the
online calendar up to date with Leagues, Outings and Events, as the
season progresses there are times when not everything scheduled
makes it onto the calendar in as timely a fashion as we all would
like. So to save ourselves the embarrassment and yourselves the
aggravation, please call before you come so we can better let you know
what to expect in the way of available tee times and cart availability
before you make the trip up here.
2010 Member-Member Results
A
reversal of last year's Championship Flight results, Joe Vanderwerken
and Mick McGinnis eagled the first playoff hole to win their flight in
this year's Member-Member. Brian Loucy and Paul Hildreth finished
second with an identical 36 Hole Captain & Mate score of 11
under par 129 (63-66). Third place went to Rick Siracuse and Brad
Chapman at 7 under par 133.
In the First Flight, with excitement
of its own, father and son, David and Chase Martin, needed 6 extra
playoff holes before defeating Sean Heffernan and Mike Bailey. Bothe
teams finished 3 under par, 137. Zach Condon and Dan Barbagallo tied
for third with Jamie Cavotta and Larry Martin at 138.
Randy Mahar
and Richard Winstead finished first in the Second Flight at 144, with
JIm Owen and Trish Latocha second at 146 and tied for third at 150 were
Connor Martin and Bruce Martin and Bryce and Tom Button.
On a
sadder note, Tim Lownsbury had to withdraw from the second day of the
tournament today due to the untimely death of his father. Our
condolences go out to long time member Tim Lownsbury and his family. We
are all thinking of you Tim.

Unknowingly Mick and brother Bill McGinnis needed a little luck to
overcome a back nine charge from Steve Roach and his partner Bob Quinn.
With the observation deck over looking the 18th green filled with with
fellow participants, Mick McGinnis holed out a badly blocked tee shot
for an eagle 2 on the Par 4 18th hole to the ever increasing roar of
the crowd. Now tied for the lead, the McGinnis brothers birdied the
first palyoff hole to win the Championship Flight.
